'Supporting early reading and confidence through matching home reading books to phonemes being taught was highlighted in the Education Inspection Framework 2019, and in response, we would like to invite your school to a workshop. This workshop will provide an opportunity for your Phonics Lead and English Lead to work together alongside colleagues from other schools to review their reading books, and ensure they are aligned to their phonics schemes of work. We will facilitate discussion around early reading to support schools to ensure their home reading books are fully decodable.

Target Group Literacy Leads, teachers, TAs

NB This workshop is not appropriate for schools that have already purchased decodable books which are fully matched to their chosen phonics scheme

Special Requirements

Delegates need to have a selection of your decodable reading books available and any matching documents you may already have'

Course Content

We will introduce the session, highlighting the importance of using fully decodable books for home readers and our school colleagues who had already completed the book matching exercise.
Then we will go through the process they had gone through in break out rooms, one for RWInc schools and 1 for Letters and Sounds schools.

Trainer Information Margie Harrison, Lead Phonics Officer and Sean Jones,  Liverpool Reading Project Lead with a focus on RWInc., supported by Gill Evans, Bury moderation manager.
