A Y4/Y5/Y6 WRITING & READING UNIT – ONE BOY’s WAR
Participants will receive a unique unit pack in addition to extensive IT resources that meet the expectations of the new national curriculum in a dynamic and stimulating manner, providing a fabulous collection of ideas and resources to inspire and promote creative writing and reading.
Target Group: Year 4, 5 and 6 teachers, teachers new to Year 4, 5 and 6, literacy coordinators, KS2 leaders, assistant headteachers, teaching assistants working in KS2.
Course Information: Using the text ‘One Boy’s War’ by Lynn Huggins-Cooper & Ian Benfold Haywood and with extracts from Michael Foreman’s ‘War Game’.
A series of reading and writing ideas will allow the children to engage in pre-text reading and writing work on the events of the Great War and provide a detailed context for the story.
An exciting and extensive unit of work, including a wealth of differentiated resources, media and ICT, to develop reading and writing for teachers in Year 4, 5 and 6 or anyone working on the topic of World War 1.
